First things first.....we had to get the invitations sent out. I wanted to create something that would really get the children excited. What could i do that was going to be different....
I had the local super market bake me a few cupcakes and asked them to ice them brightly and have the words 'eat me' piped on top. I purchased little sweety mushrooms and put 4 of these mushrooms into little bags and had 'eat me' stapled onto the bags. I had movie tickets made which invited each girl to watch the latest Alice in wonderland dvd in Kira's lounge. All these things were put onto a little tray. Kira was dressed as Alice....and my oh my....she nakes a beautiful Alice! We then drove Kira to each friend where she knocked on the door and presented each friend with the tray of goodies. Her friends were in awe when they saw her standing at their front door dressed as Alice....even the parents were blown away! Needless to say.....not only did the friends receive an invite to Kira's party.....they were spoilt with cupcakes and sweets.
This was not pricey to do. Yes, we had to drive around in our neighbourhood to deliver these invites...but to see the smiles that welcomed my daughter as she arrived at each friend....well lets just say...it was all worth the effort. I do not think that these girls have received an invite in this form....so it leaves me to believe that they must all be so very excited to be attending Kira's party. Each friend has been asked to come dressed as a their favourite wonderland character.
Before i go any further...let me introduce Kira. Kira does not usually wear any make up. However, this particular day i added the 'touches'. She looked gorgeous in her Alice costume. Here she is on her way to deliver the first invite.
Since then i have been very busy getting things organised for Kira's party. I will share the events up until today.
PARTY FOOD AND TABLE DECOR
It is going to be a teaparty..therefore i will be serving teaparty food...with a twist ofcourse. I have ordered 24 cupcakes from my local bakery at our supermarket(New World)....now if u are in NZ..do urself a favour and taste their cupcakes.....tastes as good as any bakery....at a fraction of the price. I have ordered 12 cupcakes and have asked for them to be iced brightly and sprinkled with hearts. The other 12, i have asked for them to once again have 'eat me' piped on top. 24 cupcakes have only cost me $26....and believe me when I tell you.....they make LOVELY cupcakes and they make special cupcakes up on your request. I have also ordered 2 breads from them and have asked the baker to make me a 'red' bread and a 'green' bread....it is a madhatters tea party after all. I will be spreading these slices with cream cheese and salmon and Kira has requested salami sarmies as well. The colourful bread and cupcakes will be displayed on a 3 tierred stand in the centre of the table. A tea party needs tea cups....my very good friend Deidre has the most amazing collecton of tea cups and tea pots. She has gladly loaned these to me for the tea party. They are brightly coloured and perfect for the occassion. The girls will be served tea and i will have tags hanging from their cups which say 'drink me'. I have also made teabags with a personal touch....at the tip of each teabag i have stapled an image of a character from Alice in wondeland.
After the girls have enjoyed their wonderful tea party, they will move into the lounge where we will be playing the new Tim Burton Alice in wonderland dvd. However i wanted the girls to feel as thou they were REALLY at the cinemas....so i added a personal touch.....
LOOT BAGS:
This does not have to be a costly affair. I also believe that when the children leave the party....give them something nice to take home. Many parents just throw a few sweets in a packet and i personally feel that one can do so much better than that....you do not need to spend a fortune....just have style and let your imagination run wild. I managed to get a few brown paper bags....and once again took a picture of a character from the movie and stuck the picture onto the bag....and i added a bit of ribbon just to give it that 'girly' touch.
I think the best part of a party for children is the beginning....and ofcorse the end.....at the end of the exciting day they can't wait to get into the car and go through their loot bag. I call these lootbags...'unbirthday bags'. Why? Well the unbirthday boy or girl gets to take home a bag full of goodies....what can be more exciting than that? I want the child to go home and to 're live' the day by going through things that i have specially made for them....which did not cost a fortune!
My Alice in wonderland unbirthday bags
Wouldn't every girl that leaves the party feel absolutely spoilt with a bag of goodies like this....which really did not cost a fortune. Each bag of goodies was under $5. Each girl was given a Alice tea party t shirt...however that was through a contact and I did not pay for that....so minus the t shirt....you have an amazing unbirthday gift bag under $5 per girl.
In the bags i gave each girl a box of tea....it is a tea party after all. I took tiny boxes of tea and i once again stuck a picture of a character from Alice in wonderland to the front of the box. Each girl could go home and have a lovely cup of tea with their mom....
...bookmarks made for each girl.....yet again....i took a picture..cut and laminated.....
A 'wonderland' certificate.....and once again laminated....the lamination gives it that 'classy' look. To the bag i added liquorice all sorts and an inexspensive nail enamel.
The party is this Saturday(17th July)......i have quite a bit to do tomorrow......collecting the cupcakes etc etc and then ofcourse colleting my husbands costume.....he is dressing as the Mad hatter for our daughters birthday. The costumes have caused a bit of a dilema in our home this week. Mia, our 7 year old decided that she wanted to be the white rabbit for Kira's party. I found a lovely costume on trade me...bidded,won and paid! The costume was posted 2 weeks ago and it never arrived...needless to say...i had Mia in tears every day after the postman left....as he delivered everything except Mia's costume. I had to rush around and find a 'back up' costume for just in case.....we could not have Kira's sister without a costume! I am happy to say...i have returned the 'back up' costume as Mia's white bunny costume arrived yesterday!
My husband on the other hand also had costume issues. A dress maker is making his hat and jacket and it just aint what my hubby was looking for. My close friend..Deidre(the tea pot and tea cup collector) has a natural flair....and she made her hubby a mad hatters hat....which is absolutely AMAZING!!!! To cut a long story short...Deidre has now been given the task of making my husband a mad hatters hat. Ofcourse i have not got the heart to decline the dress maker.....so she too is making my hubby a hat....
I am attending my daughters party as the Red Queen and all i can say is..'off with your heads!'....till i update you with the next blog. However let me close todays blog with 2 pictures of my darling daughters. Kira and Mia.
